16th AIM Annual Meeting and International Congress

The 16th Annual Meeting and International Congress of the AIM will take place in person in Funchal from 1 to 5 June 2027, with the support of the Regional Directorate for Archives, Libraries and Books (DRABL) and the University of Madeira (UMa). The first day will be held at the Madeira Archives and Library, where we will celebrate Archives Month. On 2, 3 and 4 June, we will return to the usual format at the Jesuit College and the Alberto Vieira Centre for Atlantic History Studies (CEHA-AV). 5 June will be dedicated to outreach activities for the community.
The Call for Papers in Portuguese, English and Spanish is now open. Proposals received by 20 December 2026 will be assessed by the conference’s Scientific Committee. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by 31 January 2027.
Call for papers:
AIM invites submit proposals for papers and pre-formed panels in Portuguese, English or Spanish, focusing on the scientific field of the moving image, including studies and the history of cinema, television, video, media and digital arts, as well as related topics deemed relevant.

All proposals will be assessed by the conference’s scientific committee. In order to facilitate the organisation of the conference and ensure the coherence of the sessions, we strongly recommend that proposals for papers be linked to Working Groups (WGs). The paper proposal should be assigned to one of the WGs when completing the proposal submission form, in the relevant field. Information on the WGs can be found on the AIM website. Proposals not associated with a working group or a pre-established panel will be organised into independent panels, following thematic criteria wherever possible.
It is possible to participate in the following capacities simultaneously:
(1) as the lead author of a paper (submitted by the author themselves);
(2) as a co-author of a paper (submitted by another author – the lead author);
(3) as coordinator of a pre-selected panel;
(4) as a panel moderator;
(5) as a discussant on a panel comprising up to three papers.
Where necessary, it may be justified to moderate more than one panel. Except in cases where panels are being moderated, non-members wishing to participate in any of these capacities must register for the Conference.
Proposals must be submitted by midnight (GMT +0h00) on 20 December 2026 using the conference form, available here.
For further information on submitting co-authored papers, forming pre-arranged panels, registration, payment methods and refunds, please refer to the general rules for participation.
